Motorola Tablet PCs Model Overview

The Motorola company unveiled its first tablet computer in January of 2011. Called the "Xoom", the device was the first to use Android 3.0, or "Honeycomb", as an operating system. Consumers who are considering purchasing Motorola tablet PCs need to do their research about the model, including the available pricing plans, the technical specifications, and the reviews from technology experts.

Upon its release, the Xoom was available only in black, like the iPad. It weights 1.6 pounds, so it's somewhat heavier than the Apple tablet, but it offers a larger 10.1 inch viewing screen. The gadget has a dual-core 1 gigahertz processor, giving it plenty of power to run programs and apps. It comes pre-loaded with 32 gigabytes of memory, giving users lots of space to store files and download media. Operating on the Honeycomb system, the computer has many Google applications already installed such as Google Talk, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps.

Unlike the iPad, the Motorola Xoom works with Adobe Flash Player. This means that users can easily view most of the videos available on the internet. Music fans can use the device's "Android Music Player" to quickly download songs directly to the device.

Users can also take pictures of themselves and communicate with others with the two megapixel webcam. Those who like to make their own films can use the included five megapixel camera to shoot video and then edit their work with "Movie Studio" video editing software. The computer can playback up to eleven different file formats, including AAC, MIDI, and MP3.

Motorola has designed several Xoom accessories to make the device easy to use and to transport. Users who want to use the tablet in lieu of a desktop computer might appreciate the wireless keyboard and the standing dock. These accessories allow people to stand the tablet up vertically as a screen and use a separate keyboard, similar to the traditional way to using a desktop computer.

Travel junkies can bring the Xoom with them on road trips and then use the car charger to top up the battery in the car. Users who like to watch video while in public and purchase the Bluetooth stereo headset to view film without disturbing others. Those who will be taking their computer to work or out of the house regularly can buy the portfolio case for easy transport.

Battery life for most tablet computers is somewhat limited and the Xoom is no exception. The installed battery delivers up to ten hours of Wi-Fi browsing or up to ten hours of video playing before it will need a recharge. When used exclusively for music, battery life can last for over three days.

If users leave the gadget on standby, its battery life will continue for up to two weeks. The Motorola company provides tips for improving the life of the battery such as reducing the display brightness, closing background apps, and turning off the Wi-Fi option when it's not being used.

Upon its debut, the Motorola Xoom received several awards and accolades from prominent tech organizations. It received the CNET "Best of CES" award in 2011 for "Best of Show". IGN called it the "Best Tablet" at CES and the magazine "Popular Mechanics" also named it one of the top 19 gadgets at the 2011 CES show.
